Long before the iPad came on the scene, Swim created a vision for a kitchen-based information appliance that met the needs of families. Working with the Consumer Systems group at IBM, we explored delivering both convenience and delight in a single device.
We scripted and produced inspirational vignettes — communicating compelling usage scenarios that did not digress into specific product details — to support brainstorming about product possibilities. Simultaneously, we created a rigorous taxonomy of functions, allowing a more detailed examination of potential product ‘slices’.
Our work enabled the team to ideate around user needs and desirable product configurations before committing to any detailed design.
